Why nLine? Policymakers, economists, and monitoring and evaluation teams refer to a measurement taken before an intervention as a “baseline” and a measurement taken after an intervention as an “endline.” These stakeholders typically depend on such infrequent and discrete measurements to calculate key performance indicators for critical infrastructure.

But spot measurements do not accurately characterize a system that changes continuously. Therefore, we called our company nLine, borrowing the italic n from the mathematical notation for integers to signify that we take continuous measurements, a data-collection strategy better suited for exploring continuous systems.

We believe that continuously monitoring critical infrastructure by pairing simple and low-cost technology with sophisticated deployment management and analytics will provide a generational improvement in the data available to utilities, regulators, and the public.
